Damian Koorey began learning basic jewelry repair at the age of fifteen in his father's jewelry store of 35 years located in Cleveland, Ohio. Not only interested in learning the family business, he was also drawn to the arts. During his years of training with his father, he focused on developing his artistic abilities as well. By the age of twenty five, he was able to work in many different mediums of artistic expression as well as the craft of goldsmithing.
In 1977 he met Deborah and they were married shortly after. Their daughter Grace was born in 1979 and by 1980 the Koorey family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where Damian managed a studio that created works that were later presented to Gerald R. Ford and his wife, Presidents of the Amway Corporation and the Queen Beatrix of Holland as well. In 1983 Damian Koorey opened Koorey Creations as a custom design trade shop for the West Michigan area. He began teaching Deborah basic goldsmithing skills and through the next ten years they worked together. In 1985 their son Christopher was born.
Damian's excellent workmanship soon generated requests for more advanced custom mountings. He also began applying his artistic talents in developing his own designs and created a small designer collection of Koorey Creations. He then began distributing them to various jewelry stores.
Damian's designs sold more quickly then anticipated and customer response was very positive. There was a demand for his pieces and clients began to seek him out. Opening the doors to more clients his custom design business grew.
By 1993, Grace Koorey, also beginning at fifteen years old, began her unique journey into the world of Koorey Creations and fine custom goldsmithing. Her love of the arts showed early and she too began creating the handcrafted specialties in the spirit of her father's vision.
In 1994 Damian began looking for an artist community to display the fine creations of he and his family. A series of events led him to Saugatuck, Michigan where inspired by the scenic Lake Michigan shoreline, the beautiful natural landscape, and a thriving arts community, he felt at home and settled in to what he viewed as an ideal location.
The next twelve years were devoted to developing Koorey Creations in Saugatuck. Deborah Koorey became marketing manager of the Saugatuck store and created a warm, personal atmosphere that showcased Damian's elegant designs on a foundation of quality, service and years of experience. Grace became shop manager and personal assistant to Damian as well as beginning her own unique designs and in 2002 Christopher Koorey chose apprenticeship with his father as well and is now starting to add his creations. In 2005, Koorey Creations was honored by the readers of Lake Magazine and was voted "Best Jeweler" on the west Michigan shoreline and KC is currently looked upon as a destination point for many Saugatuck visitors.
During the forty years of working in the Jewelry industry, Damian Koorey, Master Goldsmith and Designer never lost his love of photography, artwork and sculpture. In 2004 he opened his first gallery, making public his private collection of paintings, photography and emerging sculpture. Green Fire Studios is minutes away from Koorey Creations and open to the public currently by invitation only.
In 2004 Damian and Deborah visited the Tuscon, Arizona area and discovered Tubac, a small artist community 20 minutes north of the Mexican border. A scenic desert village nestled among beautiful mountains, full of unique artistic shops and a destination golf resort, Tubac, reminded the Koorey's of Saugatuck, and a second location was born. Damian Koorey Designs was opened  November, 2004 and shows great promise in introducing the Koorey's craftmanship to this wonderful southwestern region.
